Give us this day, our daily bread....

I stole this recipe from someone I went to school with who has a beautiful blog (and a perfect family I may say) and is a very talented photographer.  Leah Naomi is truly an inspiration to me.  I love her simplistic approach to photography and also being a mother.  She is everything you would want a Mother to be, nice AND a great homemaker.  (Did I just use the term "homemaker?"  Yes.  I did.)

Make this bread TODAY.  It's so yummy and easy to make.  There is something truly special about baking bread at home.  The kids were so excited when they got home from the cold (okay, sort of cold) surf with the smell of fresh baked bread filling our home.  Crusty on the outside, chewy on the inside.  Seriously yummy.

Kind of a fuzzy photo, but you get the idea.

Tomorrow I'm adding jalapenos and cheddar to the recipe for something zesty.

Baking the Perfect Loaf of Bread at Home Formula and Process created by Jim Lahey, owner of Sullivan St Bakery

3 cups (430g) flour 1½ cups (345g or 12oz) water ¼ teaspoon (1g) yeast a little less than 1 tablespoon salt olive oil (for coating) extra flour, wheat bran, or cornmeal (for dusting)

Equipment:

Two medium mixing bowls 6 to 8 quart pot with lid (Pyrex glass, Le Creuset cast iron, or ceramic) *I use a dutch oven Wooden Spoon or spatula (optional) Plastic wrap Two or three cotton dish towels (not terrycloth)

Process:

Mix all of the dry ingredients in a medium bowl. Add water and incorporate by hand or with a wooden spoon or spatula for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Lightly coat the inside of a second medium bowl with olive oil and place the dough in the bowl. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough rest 12 hours at room temperature (approx. 65-72°F).

Remove the dough from the bowl and fold once or twice. Let the dough rest 15 minutes in the bowl or on the work surface. Next, shape the dough into ball. Generously coat a cotton towel with flour, wheat bran, or cornmeal; place the dough seam side down on the towel and dust with flour. Cover the dough with a cotton towel and let rise 1-2 hours at room temperature, until more than doubled in size.

Preheat oven to 450-500°F. Place the pot in the oven at least 30 minutes prior to baking to preheat. Once the dough has more than doubled in volume, remove the pot from the oven and place the dough in the pot seam side up. Cover with the lid and bake 30 minutes Then remove the lid and bake 15-30 minutes uncovered, until the loaf is nicely browned.

Details. It's the little things.

I love shooting details.  It's fun to tell the whole story, even if it's just a silly two hour beach wedding.  Love shooting the rings, the dress, the shoes, the food, the drinks.  Why not?  Plus it makes it easier to build an album and vendors LOVE it.  Fun stuff.  Even if there aren't details, I make them up.  Tell the story of the day and the bride and groom will be happy clients.

All the leaves are brown...and the sky is grey.....Wishing for Fall.

Dreaming of a chill to the air, boots, caramel-colored coats and pumpkin spice lattes. Fall was my favorite time of year when I grew up in the Sunny state of Oregon. (Kidding on the sunny part.) No, but really people. Fall in the Pacific Northwest is RAD. Beautiful colors, a crispness in the air, sunny days and chilly nights. Maybe I'll pull out my Frye boots today and wear them. With cutoffs and a tank top that is.....

Fall

Kyle and Nicole, True Love

Kapalua.  Two lovebirds.  Middle-school sweethearts.  These two have it all....brains, looks, class and LOVE.  So happy for their engagement.  It was so much fun to shoot these young cuties.  Good job Kyle, you scored a really gorgeous young lady!!

What a doll.

I had the pleasure of shooting Matthew and Chanelle Alvarado's new baby (sort of new, he's 6 weeks old) "Mikael" (pronounced Mik-Ale).  What a sweetie.  He was a delight and had THE most beautiful olive toned skin.  I'm really proud of Mommy and Daddy.  They are babies themselves at 21 years old and are handling being new parents with such grace and beauty.  It's always nerve wracking shooting for a photographer, let alone one as talented as Matthew.  Thanks for giving in and finally letting me shoot him.  He's going to have an amazing life with you as parents.

Welcome to the world Mikael.

Kyle and Nicole, Kapalua Engagement Shoot

A quick shot of the gorgeous Kyle and Nicole from Denver, Colorado.  Can't wait to show you more.  They were darling and sweet and together 9 YEARS from middle school.  LOVE IT.

Let the Love....and ME.

Let The Love is a RAD photo blog for weddings and engagement shoots that shows off true and honest photography.  They had a contest with the theme of "Summer Love."  They wanted to see "romance in the sun."  I just happen to have a great shot of the beautiful Shelley Laine (my lovely baby sister) and her gorgeous man, Marlon Lewis.  (Yes, the son of famous windsurfer and shaper Jimmy Lewis.)  Marlon loves to spearfish, so I caught (no pun intended) a great shot of Shelley trying to steal a kiss....  And I WON!  YIPPPEEEEE

Check out Let The Love's blog here.  You can also click on their logo below to see my post on their Facebook page.  Keep up the awesome blogging Tory and Wendy, you guys rock....

Maui Girl, "Demi Lynn"

My daughter.  The girl is super duper sassy.  Feathers in her hair.  Legs a mile long.  A "vegetarian that eats steak."  A child that is as stubborn as a mule and also communicates with me via magna doodle board......oh my.  She's almost 8.  Time sure flies by.  I know that I'm going to blink and she'll be 16 and I probably will be losing my hair over this girl.

Haiku Mill, Corey and Jim

This is how I photograph weddings.  Fun details.  Beautiful couple.  Lots of love. Jim serenaded Corey as she walked down the aisle.  Seriously?  Where do women find men like this?  :)

Jim and Corey were a pleasure to work with as were all the amazing vendors at the Haiku Mill.   I've shot a ton with Matthew Alvarado from Beloved.  What a talented guy. Kudos to him for allowing me to tag along and capture the beauty in this union.  Stephanie from Garnish provided the pretty cocktails, for whom I LOVE working with.  Enjoy!

Maui Vow Renewal, Kapalua Bay, Jim and Sue

For those of you who know me, you know I've had a tough year.  It's called "DIVORCE."  It sucks.  It's hard.  It hurts.  And of course I shoot a ton of weddings.  Lots of tears at these events!  I've hid behind my camera so many times, crying, trying to pretend it's because I'm so touched by the vows being exchanged in front me, but it's not.  It's because I'm sad.  Wondering about love.  Testing my faith. I still believe in love.

Maui Wedding Photographer, Hotel Wailea, Suzanne and Dinan

After this sweet couple's vows were exchanged, we ran down to Polo Beach and did some fun beach shots.  More later from their awesome event at Hotel Wailea.  Big thanks to the talented Rachael Barnard and Kara from Hotel Wailea Weddings and Island Rents.  Beautiful two day event.  Thank you........
